BRIT Awards 2010 – The Nominations

This year’s nominations for the BRIT Awards 2010 showcasing the best of British and international music talent over the past year, were announced on 18 January at London’s IndigO2.

Hosted by Fearne Cotton, the event revealed a strong contingency of women leading the way. Lady Gaga, Florence & The Machine, Lily Allen, and Pixie Lott all have three BRIT nominations each.

The American sensation, Lady Gaga with her single ‘Poker Face’ has been nominated for International Breakthrough Act, International Female Solo Artist, and International Album for The Fame.

Florence & The Machine is competing for British Female Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, and British Album for her debut album Lungs. London’s Lily Allen is up for British Female Solo Artist, British Album for It’s Not You, It’s Me, and British Single of the Year for The Fear. Newcomer, Pixie Lott is nominated for British Single of the Year for “Mama Do,” British Female Solo Artist, and British Breakthrough Act.

Nominated for British Breakthrough Act, British Group, and British single for ‘Beat Again’ is X Factor’s boyband JLS. With two nominations each are Dizzee Rascal, Jay-Z, Paolo Nutini, La Roux, Empire of the Sun, and Animal Collective.

The BRIT Awards 2010 is celebrating its 30th Anniversary with two retrospective categories; The BRITs Memorable Performance of 30 Years’ Award and the ‘British Album of 30 Years’.

Robbie Williams will be honoured with the coveted Outstanding Contribution to Music award and will end the 2010 show with a live performance. Jay-Z, Cheryl Cole and Lily Allen are also set to perform on the night.

The BRIT Awards ceremony will take place on 16 February, hosted by Peter Kay, at London’s Earls Court Arena and will be televised live on ITV1.
